OUARZAZATE & its REGION

EXPLORING THE REGION OF OUARZAZATE

A wide range of activities are available, from oases to fortified villages, from enchanting valleys to desert sands.

You can opt for a day or half-day discovery tour by car, by renting a vehicle (standard or 4x4), a motorcycle or a bike in Ouarzazate. There are plenty of possibilities.

You can go for a camel, donkey or horse ride, or hike in the shade of the palm groves.

Perhaps you may prefer to ride a quad, or buggy, through the valleys and isolated villages surrounding our Kasbah (hire from 3 hours to a full day), with the help of professional guides.

OUARZAZATE : CITY OF CINEMA

Ouarzazate has been a film location since the 60s !

The natural beauty of the landscape and the exceptional quality of local craftsmanship (sets) have attracted the greatest directors, including David Lean for "Lawrence of Arabia" (filmed in Ait-Ben-Haddou in 1962), Ridley Scott for "Gladiator1" (2000), "Kingdom of Heaven" (2005), "Prince of Persia" (2008), and today "Gladiator2" (2023-2024)... and many more.

The region is also home to many famous actors, including Brad Pitt and Gérard Depardieu.

You can visit the famous ATLAS studio (at the entrance to Ouarzazate), where impressive sets (ancient and medieval cities) are well preserved, and the film museum facing the Taourirt Kasbah.

A CROSSROADS OF BERBER CULTURE

Situated in the heart of the Berber population, who make up the majority of the Moroccan south, Ouarzazate is close to exceptional sites for a wide range of half-day and full-day excursions.

OUARZAZATE HALF DAY EXCURSIONS

  • The great Kasbah of Taourirt (fortified Berber village / UNESCO World Heritage site) in the center of Ouarzazate.

  • Ait-Ben-Haddou, the most beautiful fortified Berber village in Morocco (UNESCO World Heritage site), 20 km from Ouarzazate.

  • The Skoura oasis (20 km from our Kasbah Mansour), with its thousand kasbahs, shady walks, cultures preserved to the rhythm of the donkey, pre-Islamic caves and the famous Kasbah d'Amridil (18th century).

  • The Fint oasis, 8 km from Ouarzazate.

  • The Kasbahs of Tamdaght, Amiter and Telouet, along the exceptional Ounila Valley, painted between 1920 and 1950 by Jacques Majorelle (whose house museum is in Marrakech). The Glaoui salt mines, not far from the Telouet fortress.

OUARZAZATE ONE DAY & MORE EXCURSIONS

One day is enough to explore (by car) the Draa valley, the Roses valley, the Dades valley and the Todra gorges.

If you dream of sand dunes, a 2 or 3-day trip is recommended to visit the Marzouga dunes near Erfud (Tafilalet), a town known for its fossils, or the erg Chegaga dunes near the small towns of M'Hamid and Zagora.
